Mission

The Donald and Lorena Meier Foundations supports student scholarship and higher education pathways.  One example is the Student Excellence Fund at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) that provides funding for four programs that will perpetuate financial support for the students at UNL as well as commemorate the careers and partnership of Donald and Lorena Meier of Winnetka, Illinois.

“I remember my own struggles to complete my college education. In those days, back in the `30s, they didn’t have a lot of scholarships. I agree with my wife who says that all students to seek to expand their potential by seeking full development of their talents.”

What We Support

Meier, an Oshkosh, Nebraska native, was a graduate and scholarship benefactor of the University of Nebraska-Lincoln and hopes to do the same for other students. The Meier’s four Emmy awards will be on display at the UNL’s College of Journalism and Mass Communications.

Over the years, the foundation has provided generous support to establish numerous student scholarship and fellowship programs at the University of Nebraska Foundation to benefit students in various academic areas.

The Meier Studio

In 2022, The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, School of Journalism and Mass Communications will open the Meier Studio for Television Broadcasting with the Foundations’ generous support.

The Meier Studio is part of UNL’s Experience Lab, an innovative program that provides students with real-world experience working in college-sponsored media outlets related to their area of study and career aspirations. The Experience Lab allows students to explore their industry of interest by communicating and working with real clients, sources, stories, and content within the community.
